All 22 female senators are demanding that actions be taken to address the issue of sexual harassment in Congress.
After changes were not included in the Omnibus, the 22 female senators wrote a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Charles (Chuck) Schumer demanding the issue of sexual harassment in Congress be addressed and changes be made to the Congressional Accountability Act.
The women of the Senate would like to see similar changes that the House recently passed. These changes would better support the victims of sexual harassment. These changes include:
- Prohibiting relationships between lawmakers and employees.
- Getting rid of the requirement that forces accusers to go through counseling and mediation.
- Requiring members of Congress to reimburse the Treasury Department if funds are used for sexual harassment settlements.
- Providing Congressional staffers with access to free legal representation during the harassment complaint process.
