A new bill introduced yesterday would require Congress members to pay sexual harassment settlements out of their own personal funds instead of using taxpayer money.
After numerous Congress members resigned from office due to sexual misconduct or harassment claims, members of both parties joined forces to draft a new bill to address the issues. The new bill, known as the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995 Reform Act would overhaul the sexual harassment process and make it easier for victims to come forward.
To combat lawsuits that have no serious purpose, the bill would require claimants to make their claims under oath.
