President Trump Tweets About A Ban On Transgender People In The Military

In a series of unexpected posts on Twitter, President Trump tweets about a ban on transgender people in the military.

The tweets about a ban on transgender people in the military was so unexpected, in fact, that the Pentagon wasn’t even made aware of it prior to the tweeting.

President Trump’s tweets:

“….Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming…..

“….victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you”.

The day the tweets went out, the ACLU responding stating that: “This is not about cost. This is not about readiness or a strong military. Today’s announcement is about targeting, demonizing, and endangering a group of people who are risking their lives every day for our country.”

Furthermore, the ACLU pointed out that retired  Adm. Mike Mullen, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff explained in testimony before Congress last week that, “[t]he military conducted a thorough research process on this issue and concluded that inclusive policy for transgender troops promotes readiness.” He went on to state that Congress should, “respect the military’s judgment,” regarding the issue.

Just last year, the Department of Defense ended the ban on open transgender service.

In an interview with Business Insider, former Navy Seal Team 6 member Kristen Beck, a transgender woman, tells Trump, “Let’s meet face to face and you tell me I’m not worthy.” 

According to the Washington Post, “The military spends five times as much on Viagra as it would on transgender troops’ medical care.” 

NPR reports that the Joint Chiefs Chairman has stated that their Transgender Policy will not change until they receive more direction from President Trump. The White House has yet to provide any guidance. 

If the policy does change to allow discrimination against transgender people in the military, then individuals may want to seek legal action. Consult with an attorney or the ACLU to learn more about the next steps that can be taken.
