Showing or sending you sexualized content

Unfortunately, some employees may show or send you sexualized images or videos. This should not be viewed as normal as it can lead to a hostile work environment. As a result, it is considered as sign of sexual harassment.

Quid pro quo sexual harassment

Superiors should not ask for a favor from employees in return for benefits. Unwelcomed requests like going on a date or indulging in a sexual activity before receiving a perk are not right. Some people have felt obligated to go for dinner with their bosses to keep their jobs or get a promotion.

Undoubtedly, employees and a manager can go for lunch or dinner as a team-building activity. However, you should be alarmed if you are being singled out, and it feels like an ultimatum.

Your refusal is not respected

Dating a co-worker is not necessarily illegal, but it’s discouraged. Most offices have contracts that employees who are interested in each other can sign. If a colleague makes romantic advances, and you turn down, yet they continue pressuring you to say ‘yes,’ this is a sign of sexual harassment. Consequently, you need to take action.

Sexual harassment at work can happen to men and women of all ranks. The signs discussed above can help you notice sooner that you are being sexually harassed.
